Indian Peaks Wilderness usually holds snow much further into the summer than RMNP. This picture, taken just below Lake Isabelle, provides evidence of this. The snow drifts in some places were more than 15-20 feet high.

Shoshoni Peak rises behind Lake Isabelle in this incredible scene of "winter" at the end of June. The snow on the high peaks is awesome at this time of year!

The outlet stream to Lake Isabelle bubbles in the foreground. The streams are gushing full of water at this time of year. The snowmelt behind is reducing fast with recent warm weather.

Mareike enjoys Lake Isabelle. Navajo Peak (center) and Apache Peak (right) are the 3rd and 2nd highest peaks in the Indian Peaks, respectively.

Mareike and Hikemaster Scott found a lovely lunch spot about 1/2-mile above Lake Isabelle where the snow on the trail became unpleasantly deep. Some ice remains on Isabelle below.

It didn't take long to get back to Lake Isabelle with at least 3 good snow runs! By afternoon, one normally expects a sky full of clouds...but not today!

A great hike is nearing the end...Mareike hikes in front of Niwot Ridge near Long Lake. Plentiful wildflowers are already blooming here. The forest has never smelled better!
